Ochoa Rosado de Lágrima.

CHOA ROSADO DE LAGRIMA is a rose wine made by the traditional saignee or  bleeding method with the objective of extracting the characteristic colour for this wine.To obtain te colour, the must remains in contact with the solid parts for a short period of time to be moved to a stainless steel tank, where it will ferment at a controlled temperature of 18ºC.

Ochoa Rosado de Lágrima is a wine with structure, combining the characteristics of its grape varieties: Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon. The latter variety, the latest of all in our winery, is the one that gives this wine body and a more complex character, while Garnacha gives the fruity style of this wine, which might remind of mature red berries. Javier Ochoa created this rose with the aim to create the best and elegant rose he could make with his own grapes. Nowadays, his daughter Adriana follows the tradition elaborating this rose.

Ochoa Rosado de Lagrima has a pretty bright raspberry colour, with slight purple hues that shows its youth.

On the nose, red fruit is dominant with fresh grape notes, raspberries and strawberries. Very floral and fragrant. This wine has a mineral touch reminiscence of the soil where it comes from. Elegant and modern rose wine.

On the nose it shows shy when opening the bottle, which wakes up to offer an incredible complexity: red fruits, fresh grape hints and a mineral point that reminds us of the land it comes from. Long and complex on the palate.

It goes very well with Navarra food (vegetables and grilled meat or fish), italian cuisine (pasta, pizza, rissotto) or any light meal like a salad or sandwich.

Today, Bodegas Ochoa has continued the family tradition with the marriage of Javier Ochoa and Marivi Alemán whose daughter Adriana, is now head enologist and responsible for the production and quality control of Ochoa wine. Recently, their youngest daughter Beatriz joined the family business to run the marketing department for the winery.

Javier Ochoa Martínez, current director of Bodegas Ochoa, took charge of the business that his father Adriano had already relaunched and settled. After studying enology, he joined the winery and guided it into exclusively making bottled wine, promoting the modernization of production techniques. In addition, he built a new winery on the outskirts of Olite , which are the current location of Bodegas Ochoa.

In 1980, Javier Ochoa was contracted by the Government of Navarre to promote the wine in the province and he became responsible for enology at EVENA (Estación de Viticultura y Enología de Navarra). He worked on this project until 1992.

In 1992, he came back to the family winery, run by his wife, Mariví Alemán. In that moment, the cellar was boosted by the first varietal wines and an expansion of its activity.
From 1994 on, he began to work on R & D (Research and Development), which is still a staple and represents one of the trademarks of Bodegas Ochoa.

The family tradition continues with Adriana Ochoa, enologist, who is responsible for the development and monitoring of the wine. This includes quality control in the vineyard and winery and also responsibility for the R & D projects. Adriana attended Higher Education in France where she obtained the BTS degree (Brevet Technicien Superieur) in Viticulture and Enology (Bordeaux-Blanquefort) and the DNO (National Diploma in Enology) at the University of Toulouse (ENSAT, INP). Her end of degree project was based on the aging of red wines.

Beatriz Ochoa, who recently joined the family business to run the marketing department, studied International Management in the University of Navarra, with a special interest in Marketing. After some years studying and working abroad, she returned home and works in the winery.

The future of Bodegas Ochoa is bright having Adriana Ochoa, along with her sister Beatriz, working on and promoting a new series of wines “8a”, another step in the the line of innovation,  where we continue to satisfy all palates.
